TEAM Rockingham is back in action this weekend (September 1/2) as the Northamptonshire circuit plays hosts to its second Trade Team Citroen C1 Challenge 24-hour Endurance race of the season.
Making history in May by not only making its inaugural visit to Rockingham, but also by becoming the first series to stage a 24-hour race there, the one-make tin top category is back for another pulsating weekend of track action.
In what is set to be a fond farewell by the C1 contingent, due to the venue ceasing motorsport activity at the end of the 2018 season, a three-hour and 24-hour race dominates the two-day British Automobile Racing Club’s (BARC) programme.
Providing drivers and teams with the opportunity to go endurance racing at a low cost, the C1 Challenge has proven to be a smash-hit since debuting in 2017, with more than 100 cars having been built in that time.
Packed grids at events this season have underlined the popularity of the series already this year. As was the case at the 2018 curtain-raiser at Rockingham, which resulted in a three-hour Citroen C1 Challenge race being held to accommodate all the teams which missed out on a place in the 24hr event.
Such is the popularity of the series, this weekend’s three-hour race boasts 35-car grid whilst the longer 24-hour race currently has 38. The main event starts at 17:00 on Saturday and for the first time in over a decade, the racing action will be held on Rockingham’s 2.44-mile International Circuit.
In the inaugural 24-hour race, Team C’est La Vie emerged as the winners – two laps ahead of their nearest challengers. Whether they can produce a repeat performance however remains to be seen as they go up against an entry list which includes British Touring Car Championship race winner Rob Austin and former BTCC star Daniel Welch, amongst a host of others.
In addition to the Trade Team Citroen C1 Challenge, two of the BARC South East Centre categories will also be in action. The BARC South East Modified Saloon Car Championship and BARC South East Tin Tops Championship will bring the best of all things with a roof to Rockingham for a set of pulsating races.
Advance tickets can be booked online at www.rockingham.co.uk or via the hotline on 01536 500500, option 1, until midday tomorrow (Friday, August 31). Adult tickets cost just £12, while children and 15 and under get in FREE. Tickets will also be available on the gate priced £16 per day.
Gates open at 08:00 and track action starts from 09:00. As always at Rockingham all tickets include access to a grandstand seat offering panoramic views of the entire circuit, the pit garage roof and race paddock, which means there are no hidden costs.
Please note: There will be no access to the grandstand seats between 20:30 on Saturday and 07:00 on Sunday, however spectators will be able to watch the action from hospitality suite U7, which is located on Level 2 of the Rockingham Building.
